Evening bags were designed to be held either in the hand or, if a clutch, under the arm. Some have a strap like a bracelet so that the bag dangles from the wrist. They are customarily small, with just enough room for a lipstick, powder compact and became the mobile boudoir as woman sashayed from dance floor to cocktail lounge, few woman used the same bag from day to night. Etiquette in the 1950’s dictated that woman dressed up for cocktail hour and evenings at the theatre.
